Just about all of us have moments when we find ourselves looking at the rooms in our house and saying to ourselves, “It really would be nice to do a bit of upgrading.” But whether it’s due to our busy schedules or our really tight budgets, we let weekend after weekend go by without making any significant changes.
If this is something that you can relate to and you really would like to do a bit of remodeling, but you’re looking for some suggestions that are easy, affordable and also a little fun as well, we have provided you with a list of five weekend home remodeling projects that will have your house looking great below:
Paint. Something that you can do that will only take a few hours and doesn’t cost a lot of money is paint a room (or a couple of rooms) in your house a new color. Maybe you want to brighten up your bonus room with a nice shade of blue or you’d like to add a chalkboard wall to your kid’s room. Just make sure that you use a low-VOC paint brand. Yolo Colorhouse, Green Planet Paints and Harmony Interior Latex are some of our personal favorites.
Rearrange your furniture. If you would like to totally change the appearance of your living room or bedroom but you don’t want to spend any money in the process, consider rearranging your furniture. For instance, if it’s wintertime, you can move your sofa away from the window. Or if you want to make a room look larger, you can place a chair against a wall that is directly across from a window and then place a mirror right above it. It will make the room look larger when people look into the mirror as a direct result.
Change your pillows or get a sofa cover. If you secretly you wish that you had some new furniture but you can’t afford to buy anything that’s new, there are two things that you can do. You can purchase some pieces from a local thrift store or yard sale and then go to a website like DIY Network to look for tips on how to refinish or reupholster what you purchased or, you can do simple things to update the furniture that you already have. For instance, you can buy a new sofa cover or a set of pillow covers from Target or Wal-Mart.
Get some new light fixtures. Do you want to make your bathroom look a little more elegant? Or perhaps you want to change the lighting in your bedroom. In either case, consider getting some new light fixtures. A chandelier will definitely make your bathroom look more upscale and a ceiling fan (with lights attached) in your bedroom can bring in a bit more light while also helping to reduce your energy costs too.
Add some plants or flowers. If you were to ask a company like Foster Remodeling Solutions about a simple thing that you can do to make a big difference in virtually any room in your house, they would probably tell you to pick up a plant from a local nursery or some fresh flowers from a grocery store. Plants like the English Ivy and Spider plant will brighten up a room while keeping toxins out of the air and roses or lilies are always beautiful, no matter where you put them. It’s a quick way to remodel just about any room that you have.
